Reflexology is based on the
theory that certain areas on the feet, hands and
ears correspond to specific organs, glands and
body parts. Reflexologists use various finger,
thumb and hand techniques and systematically apply
pressure to the feet which can have therapeutic
effects in other parts of the body.
Ancient healers used various
methodologies to strengthen and balance the energy
flow in the body. They acknowledge that energy
flows in zones or meridians throughout the body
and that these pathways link organs and body
parts. Foot massage has been practiced by a
variety of cultures and it is generally believed
that its roots date as far back as 5000 years ago
in China and drawings on pyramid walls in Egypt.
At your first consultation, I
will ask questions on your medical history, your
lifestyle and eating habits. After your feet have
soaked in essential oils and warm water you will
then sit in a reclining chair and then cream will
be applied once your feet are dried off.
Techniques vary slightly, but the whole foot will
be massaged and then specific points will be
worked on, using pressure. You may feel some
points of pressure uncomfortable or tender. This
is a sign of some blocked energy in the
corresponding part of your body. You should
indicate when there is discomfort and I will work
on that specific area to ease the related problem
in the body. The sessions usually take an hour.
Regular reflexology sessions are beneficial in
maintaining health and wellbeing. A series of
sessions may be required if the condition is of a
chronic
nature. |
